Mrs. Elizabeth Boddy, widow of the late
John Boddy, passed away at the home of her son, Edward, in Buel township, early
Sunday morning, and in her demise this county and immediate vicinity loses
another well known and respected pioneer.
The deceased was over 89 years of age,
having been born on the eleventh day of November in the year 1824. For many
years she resided in Canada, the place of her birth, but in the year of 1848
came to Michigan and settled on some wild land in Sanilac county, and near the
place where her death occurred.
Like all of the early settlers, Mrs. Boddy
experienced many hardships and lived to enjoy the results of the same. She was a woman with a sterling character,
ambitions and respectful, and was loved by all who knew her. She was a devout member of the M. E. church,
and her activities in the same will long be remembered.
For the past eight weeks the deceased's has
been ailing, death finally ending all earthly suffering at about 4:30 o'clock
Sunday morning. The
funeral
was held from the Buel M. E. church on Wednesday afternoon, Rev. F. H. Townsend
officiating, and the remains interred in the Davisville cemetery.
Mrs. Boddy is survived by seven children,
three girls and four boys, all of whom were present at the funeral
services. They are Mrs. Jane Hawkins,
of Applegate; Mrs. Catherine Williams and Mrs. Mary Switzer, of Flint; Edward
Boddy, of Buel; George Boddy, of Detroit; Robert Boddy, of Rose City; and
Thomas Boddy, of Elk)
